Brett: This sign seems pretty boring at first glance, but when you spend some time really looking at it, it gets more interesting. I like the abacus-esque of the big yellow "beads" those red rods, just great. I feel bad for "M" though. Clearly it's been bad and sent to it's room for some quiet time. Why else would they separate it from the other letters with its own little box?

Larry: I never noticed that until you mentioned it. I'm thinking it was a "H"otel and then jumped on to the "M"otel bandwagon. It saved them money from needing a whole new sign. This sign is great. Who doesn't like simplicity - meat-and-potatoes type of design.

Brett: Yeah, I used to avoid A~1 like the plague. Then one day I tried it and it was good! That has nothing to do with this sign though...not really. The other great thing about this sign (and this is true of many of them) is the way all of the "weight" is on the left side. It creates some great dynamic tension with its surroundings. You want to reach out and help hold it up.

Larry: So true, I think I even see it leaning like over the years people haven't been coming around much to support it.
