Larry:
Sometimes I wonder if many of these signs were designed by the same person.
Sweeping arrows that display moving lights at night is something that wins
me over when it comes to motels.
Brett: I wonder if a person went to school to learn how to design
these or if there were style guides for sign makers back then. Is this the
motel in the picture? It looks like a hardware store to me. The sign is
quality sign and like you pointed out, very typical in its design. The
swooping arrow atop a funky trapezoid to add a bit of dynamism to the whole
shebang.
Larry: They've had some trouble with folks turning right into the
building in the past. Direct your eyes, if you will, to the bottom of the
photo. They had to add an equally cool sign at the entrance to the parking
"Turn Here" with a blinking star and another arrow. I'd be tempted to stay
in the parking lot with a sign as great as that.
Brett: They must of had some confusion as to whether this was a motel
or not too. The wee little red and white motel sign makes me smile. I was
going to make a comment about Mae West not being so thrilled with a run down
motel using her name, but now I see that it's really called Way West... so
never mind. |
